my story

The tale of Talufane really started when I was just a little girl. I escaped as often as I could into the world of my imagination, and that’s where I always felt the safest and most like me. I’ve found that while at times during my life I was firmly rooted in the here and now, there was always a pull to worlds beyond my reach – a curiosity, and a yearning to be the heroine of an epic story. Good stories transport us to places and times that we may never have visited if they hadn’t been written, and they’ve shaped who I am today.

When I opened my business in 2011 (then called Untold Imprint), I was overjoyed to be creating things that I felt connected to after being a corporate textile designer for so many years. I’ve tried to keep the promise that I made to stay true to myself - growing and changing, and sinking into the authentic connection between me and my work. What I’ve learned is that it’s a slow and beautiful process. I’m still finding my way and allowing myself, once again, to escape to the stories that I paint and watch and read ~ just as I did all those years ago as a child.

Changing my business name to Talufane marks the joining of all the wonderful and complex pieces of me. It’s also the joining of two old words – talu (from Old English) means the telling of a tale, and fane (from Middle English) is a sacred place or temple. Together they speak of stories that shape us, and the love that we hold for them. My offerings are inspired by tales - some already told, and some we have yet to tell. My hope is that my prints, patterns, colors, and words will spark a curiosity of characters and ideas you may not know - or reconnect you to those you do. And if one of my printed textiles with a mystical plant finds its way into your life and leads you to wonder what it is or where it came from, I’ll meet you on the forest path and we can escape together.

my Alice

On June 29th, 2014 I adopted my beautiful girl Alice from a rescue. She is my sweet companion on nature walks, a daily reminder to take time for play and love, and my comfort when life is at its hardest and best.
