Divine Footprints Necklace

104.00

An antique amulet from India, picturing the divine footprints of Hindu Lord Vishnu with three small dangles, is strung on cotton in a shades of celadon green. Old handmade silver beads from Africa are knotted on each side of the amulet.

The amulet has a patina of sindoor residue, which is the reddish orange powder made from tumeric that is used in ceremonies throughout India.

Vishnu is ‘the preserver’ in the Hindu trinity, which also includes Brahma (the creator) and Shiva (the destroyer). Vishnu protects the order of things (dharma) and, when necessary, he appears on earth in various incarnations to fight demons and maintain harmony. In Hinduism, the feet of gurus and religious teachers are in themselves holy because the gods use their feet to create and influence the world. Therefore, followers of Vishnu worship and venerate imagery of his feet and footprints. Wearing an amulet picturing Divine Footprints is believed to be powerful and sacred protection.

The amulet is made of high content silver.

Approximate size of amulet is 1” x 1.75”

Loop is approximately 26” and slips over the head.

Will arrive packaged in a hand dyed muslin pouch.
