Shiva Silver Amulet Necklace

98.00

An antique amulet from early 1900s India, picturing the Hindu God Shiva strung on cotton taping in shades of celadon green. The amulet has four small silver knotted rings attached at the top which I left intact, as they appear to be original to the piece and are quite delicate and beautiful.

The amulet is made from old coin silver and is flanked by rustic handmade silver plated beads from Africa.

Shiva, Sanskrit for 'the auspicious one', is one of the main Deities of Hinduism and one of the most complex gods of India, embodying contradictory qualities of both destroyer and restorer. In Hinduism, the universe is thought to regenerate in cycles (every 2,160,000,000 years). Shiva destroys the universe at the end of each cycle and allows for its recreation. Therefore, Shiva's destruction is not a negative thing, but the basis for transforming life. His destruction also relates to our imperfections. He destroys our attachments, ignorance, and illusions which prevent our inner transformation.
