Seven Mothers Necklace

158.00

A large antique amulet from India, picturing the seven Matrikas, strung on braided thick-and-thin deep fuchsia silk. The amulet is framed on either side by old handmade silver beads from India. Traces of pink Sindoor paste, a powder used in ceremonies throughout India, is visible on the amulet.

The ‘Matrikas’ ~ Sanskrit for mother or divine mother ~ are a group of mother goddesses who are always depicted together in Hinduism. They are different forms of Parvati, the goddess of power, and represent the energies of the important deities: Brahmani, Vaishnavi, Maheshvari, Indrani, Kaumari, Varahi, and Chamunda, with a guardian at the left.

The simple act of wearing an amulet close to your body is a form of worship to the particular goddess or deities depicted.

Because this necklace is long, it looks beautiful layered with shorter necklaces.

Approximate size of amulet is 1.5" high x (almost) 1.75" wide

Loop is approximately 23"

Hand stamped Untold Imprint silver tag at back of neck.

Will arrive packaged in a hand dyed muslin pouch.
